An Alternative Look At Breast Cancer Awareness

On October 7, 2011, in Health & Wellness, by Marguerite Wright

This is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for years now America has turned pink in October and we see the famous ribbon all around reminding us the importance of early detection of breast cancer. This is very important, but you can go even deeper than just preparing yourself for early detection of breast cancer. We need to fight breast cancer or any type of cancer from ever being detected. This time of the year makes us ask
ourselves – What causes cancer? How can we avoid ever getting cancer? Is it in the food? Is it in the environment? Is it lack of nutrition?

Dr. Becker of “Your Health” TV show, which airs on Channel TLN asked these important questions on one of his recent shows when he had a special guest who was
very knowledgeable; Dr. Russell Blaylock, board certified neurosurgeon and researcher of nutrition for disease prevention. Dr. Blaylock shared some “eye-opening” facts and studies about breast cancer that we need to consider.

Dr. Becker pointed out one thing in our environment that is affecting our health – pesticides and herbicides. Studies show that herbicides increase Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma by 70%. Glyphosate exposure doubles the risk of the disease. Glyphosate is an ingredient in a common used pesticide called Round Up, used widely. It is sprayed on crops to grow corn and other popular foods. Dr. Becker pointed out that farmers have some of the highest rates of cancer. This is alarming considering the fact that we really can’t control this situation. It does prove the point to try to eat more organically grown food.

Dr. Becker’s interview with expert nutrition therapist for cancer, Russell Blaylock, M.D. revealed some jaw dropping facts. His first question to Dr. Blaylock was “Do you think mammograms are important for fighting breast cancer?”

Dr. Blaylock’s response was “I oppose mammograms to detect breast cancer.” He stated that mammograms cause unnecessary surgeries in large numbers for women. Statistically, women are developing cancer because of mammograms. This statement may disturb many but he did back his case by explaining that studies and research went on during 2002 and 2003 where over ½ million women’s mammograms were observed to see if
the mammograms prevented cancer and the conclusion was – NO. A second study went on by an independent research group call The Cochrane group who concluded the same thing – mammograms do not prevent cancer. A storm of protest happened from this study, mainly from the American Cancer Society who promotes mammograms every year. Dr. Blaylock made a good point from this research. This means there is a group
of women who should never get mammograms because they have a high risk in breast cancer, but it recommended that they get mammograms earlier, at age 20 – even every 6 months. Dr. Blaylock pointed out that this will expose them to radiation even more and they already have a fragile DNA. Mammograms damage the DNA each time it is given. This causes a 1 in 3 increase in getting breast cancer. The average woman who doesn’t have high risk for breast cancer has only an 8% chance of getting breast cancer.

Women feel confused because we have been taught for so long the importance of getting our annual mammograms. Dr. Becker and Dr. Blaylock had a simple answer for this concern. Mammograms aren’t the only choice to exam breasts. You can choose to have a thermography, MRIs, ultrasounds and, of course, self-exams. Some may say MRIs may result in false positives but Dr. Blaylock said 90% of mammographs are false positives.

So what can women do to prevent breast cancer? What actions can we take. The doctors pointed out things we all can do, if you have been diagnosed with cancer or just trying to live a cancer-free life.

Tips from the doctors:
- Eat clean, more wholesome, organic and non-genetically modified foods.
- Take sugar out the diet. Many natural alternatives are available.
- Avoid toxins like pesticides, MSG, aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, and soy
products which causes inflammation in the body.
- Don’t eat lots of red meats high in iron.

Take natural supplements that are natural cancer inhibitor s such as:
- Quercetin
- Resveratrol
- Green Tea Extract
- Pomegranate (also good for fighting heart attacks)
- Vitamin D, which is a very powerful controller of cancer growth
- Omega 3s, another powerful cancer inhibitor

Avoid Omega 6s: your processed oils, like corn oil, safflower oil and canola oil. Studies
show these oils cause tumors to metastasize.

Seek a healthcare office that offers Thermography in your area.
